Idaho Public Television (PTV) has an exciting and very rare opportunity for a PTV Producer/Director. Idaho Public Television is a PBS member station and Idaho's only locally owned and operated statewide broadcast network. We are a state agency under the Idaho State Board of Education. Our nonprofit arm, The Friends of Idaho Public Television, Inc., provides private support for our content production and educational efforts and allows us to produce award-winning long form documentaries, quality public affairs journalism, podcasts, educational digital lesson plans, and community events. Summary: To produce and direct original content using single camera (EFP), studio, or remote equipment; coordinates program production; performs related work. This person will be primarily responsible for producing long-form documentaries for programs such as Outdoor Idaho and Idaho Experience, but may also produce shorter news or web videos. This person will be part of a documentary production team but often will be self-directed. So this person must be comfortable with shared work as well as operating with independence and with autonomy in the field. This person will be expected to travel the state and report from remote communities and back-country settings, so a passion for Idaho's rural and outdoor settings is required.
Responsibilities:
Minimum Qualifications: Experience in a professional broadcast and/or video production environment: researches original and assigned program proposals; writes and edits narratives and scripts for all platforms; organizing and scheduling a media production team in the studio or on remote location; directs single camera (documentary style) productions with an understanding of studio and remote television productions using multiple cameras; working within an established budget for television programs and other related platforms and maintaining record of expenses, time, personnel, facilities, and rights for final project report; operating professional studio and field broadcast and prosumer equipment including field video cameras, field audio equipment, lighting and grip equipment using professional standards; operates nonlinear editing hardware and software, mass storage for nonlinear uses including video file transcoding; understands operation of studio equipment such as video switchers.
Preferred Qualifications: Good knowledge and experience with camping and backcountry safety methods. Ability to navigate in remote places. Technical problem-solving skills in broadcast environments. Familiar with Adobe Premiere Pro and the Adobe Creative Cloud Suite. Comfortable in political settings and environments. Familiarity with U.S. West issues, geography, history, politics and culture, as well as Idaho state and local government issues and operations. Familiarity with Idaho's outdoor areas, rural areas and issues of importance to rural communities. Familiarity with and experience in adhering to journalistic practices and standards, extending to personal political and social media practices. Ability to work and complete tasks with high quality standards and minimal supervision. Typically gained by: Working three to five years in a television, radio, print news publication or other journalistic outlet.
