About the Role

Productboard is seeking a visionary Principal AI Architect to lead the next wave of intelligent product discovery. In this pivotal role, you’ll collaborate directly with our CTO and CEO to design and implement cutting-edge AI systems that empower product teams to build what matters — faster, smarter, and with confidence.

You will spearhead the development of next-generation AI agents , purpose-built large language model (LLM) integrations, and multi-agent orchestration to redefine how product organizations surface customer insights, prioritize features, and make strategic product decisions. Your work will deeply influence the future of B2B SaaS by bringing AI to the heart of product management.

Internally, your AI systems will augment the capabilities of our own team - delivering advanced data summarization, automated customer feedback clustering, and predictive analytics that fuel product-led growth. Externally, you’ll help create an AI-native user experience that transforms how product managers interact with Productboard—enabling faster prioritization, improved roadmap confidence, and clearer alignment with customer needs.

What You’ll Do

• Lead the evolution of our AI-native product discovery platform by integrating advanced multi-agent systems and foundation model capabilities.
• Develop agentic workflows that support intelligent product decision-making—from user feedback analysis to product prioritization and roadmap generation.
• Fine-tune and deploy LLMs specialized in product strategy, customer insight synthesis, and business context understanding.
• Architect a proprietary orchestration layer enabling collaborative AI agents to deliver strategic product recommendations.
• Build intelligent systems that extract and distill insights from fragmented user feedback, CRM systems, product usage data, and team knowledge.
• Develop explainable AI systems that provide transparency and traceability behind product decisions and recommendations.
• Create learning loops that enable AI agents to improve with every interaction and become true collaborators for product managers.
• Design adaptive interfaces that evolve with user behavior, team structures, and product goals.
• Ensure privacy, security, and compliance in AI-driven features, especially when handling sensitive customer or usage data.
• Collaborate closely with product managers, designers, engineers, and company leadership to deeply embed AI into the product development lifecycle.
• Stay ahead of research in AI/ML, agentic systems, and human-AI collaboration, and translate breakthrough ideas into production-ready features.

About You

• PhD or advanced degree in Computer Science, Machine Learning, AI, or related field (or equivalent practical experience).
• 5+ years of experience leading AI/ML research or development in production environments.
• Expertise in LLMs, multi-agent systems, and orchestration frameworks.
• Experience building AI systems in B2B SaaS, enterprise software, or other data-rich decision-making domains.
• Proven track record of shipping AI features with high reliability, explainability, and business impact.
• Strong understanding of user feedback systems, product analytics, and business decision processes.
• Deep experience with human-AI interaction design, particularly in knowledge work and decision support.
• Familiarity with RAG systems and domain-specific LLM adaptation.
• Proficiency in privacy-preserving ML techniques and responsible AI design.
• Ability to bridge business needs with cutting-edge technical solutions.
• Strong communication skills with the ability to influence stakeholders across product, engineering, and design.
• Thought leadership or published work in top-tier AI/ML conferences is a plus.
• Mastery of Python and modern ML toolkits.
• Strong experience with data pipelines, data modeling, and MLOps.

The expected base pay range for this position in the San Francisco area is $245,000 - $400,000. In addition to the base pay, this role is eligible for competitive equity awards and benefits. Productboard's pay ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, the successful candidate’s starting base pay will be determined based on factors including job-related skills, experience, qualifications, relevant education or training, and market conditions. These ranges may be modified in the future.
