As a Maintenance Repairer, you'll work on a wide variety of projects related to maintaining and improving the City's infrastructure. Examples of Duties Routine maintenance of sanitary sewer mains: operating sanitary sewer jet, examining mains for issues, maintenance, and evaluation purposes. Routine maintenance of catch basins, manholes including hydro excavating with vac-all. Operate trucks and other equipment common to construction and maintenance activities. Assist in building storm sewers, catch basins and sanitary manholes including shoring job sites as needed. Crackfilling and potholing work with asphalt, including patch work in streets, alleys, curbs and sidewalks. Assist in emergency work of all types including snow/ice control, flooding, wind storms, natural disasters, and sanitary sewer pumping. Qualifications Must possess a solid work ethic, integrity, initiative, accountability, and emotional intelligence to effectively perform the duties of the position. A Maintenance Repairer must be available to work nights, weekends, holidays, overtime, and sometimes long and odd hours when emergency conditions require such duty, including serving on rotational watch duty when assigned. Education, Training and Experience : High school graduate/equivalent and two (2) years of recent paid work experience in finishing concrete required. Street and/or sewer construction, maintenance work with particular emphasis in laying block, setting forms, and laying asphalt desirable. Competent in the use of office computer/software and mobile devices such as an iPad. Licenses and Certificates : Possession of a valid Wisconsin Driver's License and an acceptable driving record per City Policy. Possession of a valid Wisconsin Commercial Driver's License (Class B, C with airbrakes) and Tanker (N) endorsement within 12 months of appointment. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities : Good knowledge of methods, materials, tools, and equipment used in public works construction and maintenance; knowledge of occupational hazards and safe work practices; skill in using hand tools and equipment; ability to perform semi-skilled maintenance tasks and interpret work from rough sketches or layouts; ability to operate vehicles with both standard and automatic transmissions; ability to understand and carry out verbal and written instructions; mechanical aptitude; ability to establish effective working relationships with diverse populations; sound judgment; multi-tasking in a fast-paced environment; adaptability and learning of specialized software systems and databases; knowledge of computer applications and mobile devices; demonstrated ability to promote innovation, operational excellence, and continuous improvement.
