Job Description
We are a classic automotive restoration and service business in northeast Collin county and we're expanding - doubling our capacity and we have multiple positions available.
If you are tired of chasing the flat-rate flag hour, then this might be the automotive opportunity you've been waiting for. If you're a life-long automotive hobbyist with a demonstrable skillset and respect for the classics, then this may be your chance to get paid for the kind of work you're already doing out of a love for the kind of cars we work on every day.
The following positions are available:
- Mechanic/Technician/Specialist: These positions will be responsible for performing mechanical and other restoration-related functions.
- Apprentice: This position will assist the shop staff, Foreman and owner as required. Will also be responsible for general shop upkeep as required. Minimal experience is required, but a full set of hand tools will be required.
ASE certification is not required, but experience with - and an appreciation of classic automobiles is a must. This is a fulltime position. Working on 45+ year-old cars means there is no such thing as a valid flat rate on any of the work we do. Compensation is based on an hourly wage rather than flag hours or what some flat-rate manual says you should earn for a particular "repair". However, a proven performer may warrant negotiating supplementary incentive-based compensation.
We are NOT a "repair" shop. While we do perform minor repairs from time-to-time on vehicles we've restored, we are more of a project-oriented business.
While the term "technician" is listed in this posting to ensure maximum visibility and search response, there are no technicians here. If you're a parts-changer that relies on an ODB scanner to tell you what's wrong, this is likely not the place for you. We are a team of mechanically-competent automotive enthusiasts that work on cars where you can (and should be able to) actually understand how everything works without having resort to interpreting error codes. Instead, we rely on experience, intelligence, service manuals and online searches to determine what needs to be done to complete a project.
Responsibilities will include - but are not limited to - complete disassembly of autos, stripping (via media blasting and other means) of complete chassis and components, bodywork, electrical, refurbishing of components and reassembly of autos. Also responsible for mechanical diagnostics and maintenance of classic autos.
Prior experience as a "professional" mechanic is not required, but you will be expected to demonstrate a history of work that shows you have the know-how and ability to perform the job effectively. We've had great results with people who are classic car enthusiasts that have never turned a wrench professionally.
A successful candidate will:
- Have own hand tools and basic air tools with appropriate rolling tool cabinet.
- Be able to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Demonstrate an attention to detail and quality workmanship.
- Be a self-starter that can take on a project and be held accountable for productivity.
- Demonstrate a sincere respect for people from all walks of life.
- Be computer literate, able to research online and navigate/open/edit/save basic Microsoft Office files on the shop's network.
This is a Monday through Friday position with virtually no overtime and only an occasional Saturday or Sunday.- mostly for car show participation.
TO BE CONSIDERED: You MUST submit a copy of your RESUME and/or WORK HISTORY along with your COMPENSATION REQUIREMENTS. Easily 80% of "applicants" in the past haven't been able to comply with these simple requirements for consideration and those who don't will not be considered. A truly sharp candidate will also have researched this company well enough to be able to suggest in their initial contact just how they can contribute to this business' success.
No unsolicited calls will be accepted and no drop-in interviews will granted.
