Job purpose
The Youth Band Director works with all students, from 7th through 12th grades, assisting the Pastor of Youth Ministries and Associate Director of Youth Ministries and as a team member of the Youth Department, seeking to provide meaningful music and worship in the context on Sunday and Wednesday night programming (high school and middle school youth group). The Youth Band Director will also seek to involve students in the musical aspects of programs.
Duties and responsibilities
Ministry Goals:
- Provide musical leadership to middle and high school students, during weekly Sunday and Wednesday night programming.
- Work with students to develop musical skills in leading music/worship during relevant youth events.
- Promote leadership/ownership among students and adult volunteers.
- Create a safe haven for all students (7th-12th grades) to interact with others, provide mutual support, explore their spirituality, and develop self-confidence.
Specific Ministry Responsibilities:
- Work with all students on a consistent basis to provide quality engaging musical aspects to relevant programs for middle and high school students.
- Communicate effectively and consistently with families and students when applicable.
- Incorporate the participation of students in other aspects of the church’s life, such as Sunday morning worship (eg, Youth Sunday) and all-church fellowship events.
- Perform other job functions as necessarily and appropriate to enhance the ministry of Village Presbyterian Church.
Staff Responsibilities
- Attend weekly youth ministry department meetings.
- Abide by the church’s Child/Youth protection guidelines and keep appropriate personal boundaries.
Qualifications
- Able to support the mission and ministry of Village Presbyterian Church.
- Two years’ experience in student ministry preferred.
- Minimum of high school diploma.
- Serves as an example for others in Christian living.
- Professionalism in all aspects of ministry, including the ability to work independently and collaboratively with others, the ability to communicate effectively, and the ability to recognize and maintain confidentialities.
Working conditions and Physical Requirements
- Typical work is in an office environment.
- Occasional participation in active games and activities.
- Travel (various youth trips) optional if desired on the part of the employee
