Information about the role The Division of Protection Services in the Office of Museum Operations and Administration is currently seeking a Supervisory Security Specialist. Salary is commensurate with experience. Reporting to the Deputy Director, Protection Services, this position serves as a strategic partner for strengthening and evolving the standards and best practices related to security operations for the Museum, as well as providing advice and guidance to the Deputy Director and Director, Division of Protection Services; Chief Museum Operations Officer, and Museum Director on issues related to the Museum and its Security Operations. May be called upon to serve as the Acting Deputy Director or Acting Director of the Division of Protection Services. Duties and Responsibilities for the role Provides supervision and leadership to the Security Specialist for Security Operations and Security Specialist for Security Control Center. Serves as the Supervisory Security Specialist over the Security Operations at the Museum’s Campus in Washington, DC and offsite facility in Maryland. Develops, evaluates, updates and implements policies, procedures and emergency plans relating to the Museum 24/7/365 Security Control Center operation. Serves as the Contracting Officers Representative (COR) over the Museum’s Security Officer Contract consisting of licensed and armed Special Police Officers (SPOs). Works in concert with Museum senior management, staff experts, consultants and contractors in the review and evaluation of security procedures to assure compliance with appropriate federal, state and local regulations while meeting Museum needs. Identifies and incorporates appropriate training and operations opportunities for the Museum’s Security Officer Contract. Proactively and regularly communicates with staff, volunteers, interns, contractors, and other key stakeholders to resolve issues. Ability to provide comprehensive briefings to the Museum’s leadership, as needed. Serves as the Division’s lead for coordination of the security elements of VIP Visits and Onsite and After Hours Events. Maintains liaison and coordinates security matters, as required with Federal, state, city or local law enforcement agencies, and private/commercial security organizations and officials. May be called upon to assist with security for Museum Regional Offices Offsite Events and Programs. Monitors daily threat activities in the world and National Capital Region that could impact the Museum. Performs other related duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications for the role At least fifteen years of progressively responsible relevant work experience with a law enforcement or security organization. Previous experience as a supervisor. Bachelor Degree or equivalent work experience. Strong organizational skills & attention to detail essential. Ability to work in a time sensitive, deadline driven, demanding and sometimes stressful environment, taking initiative & prioritizing multiple tasks with minimal supervision. Ability to tackle challenges and stay flexible with changing priorities and needs. Excellent interpersonal skills, ability to work both independently & collaboratively as a member of a team. Preferred Qualifications for the role Current Top Secret Security Clearance or ability to obtain one.
