Description


Establish policies and procedures for Mental Health Services and the Student Wellness Center. Provide crisis intervention and short-term counseling to students addressing mental health concerns impacting their overall well-being and quality of life. Supervise and manage the operations, functions, and employees of the Student Wellness Center, which includes the College Nurse, Food Pantry, Benefits Navigator/Student Wellness Specialist, Lactation Room, wellness programming, and mental health counseling and services.

Description of Essential Functions (critical tasks)

  1. Coordinate Operations and Establish Policies and Procedures for Mental Health Services and the Student Wellness Center:
a. Provide staff who support mental health initiatives and the Student Wellness Center with supervision and training for all aspects of processes and department policies; coordinate work assignments; and participate in staff performance evaluations. Define appropriate professional goals and accountability systems for staff.
b. Identify and implement a clinical records database and coordinate the database's testing, implementation, and utilization.
c. Maintain strategic partnerships with local and virtual mental health service providers to improve campus mental health wellness and capacity.
d. Organize and oversee a panel of experts to develop policies and procedures related to mental health conditions and Section 504 in coordination with the Counselor for Accommodations and Mental Health Initiatives.
e. Create, maintain, and update all necessary clinical documentation.
f. Maintain confidential records of all students who use mental health services.
g. Plan, implement, evaluate, and revise all processes and procedures of Mental Health Services and the Student Wellness Center.
h. Authorize any and all expenditures and maintain budget responsibility for appropriate utilization of funds.
i. Interpret policies, rules, and regulations to ensure compliance with the Mental Health Early Action on Campus Act and any future legislation in the mental health area. Maintain relevant data and evaluate the major components of the Mental Health Early Action on Campus Act for college and state reporting.
j. Provide other assigned functions as appropriate that contribute to the Mental Health and Student Wellness Center and support the mission, vision, and values of the College.
k. Supervise the College Nurse, Benefits Navigator/Student Wellness Specialist, and any student or future positions assigned to the Student Wellness Center.
l. In collaboration with Student Wellness Center staff, supervise a plan and timeline/calendar to develop, facilitate, advertise, and assess programming to the student body in multiple areas of Student Wellness. This should include but is not limited to: Mental Health Awareness and Support, Physical Health and Wellness, Assessment of Basic Needs (housing, food, transportation), Emotional and Social Well-being, and Safety and Prevention (alcohol, substances, sexual health, etc.), etc.
2. Provide Mental Health Counseling and Crisis Intervention:
a. Provide individual and group counseling and crisis intervention to students. Make appropriate referrals to community agencies when appropriate.
b. Manage effective relationships with Counseling Services and faculty and staff when responding to students in crisis or displaying concerning behavior.
3. Support Campus Initiatives Addressing Mental Health Support:
a. Serve as a consultant to the Behavioral Intervention Team.
b. Coordinate awareness of mental health screenings and resources that are available online and on campus through the development and maintenance of a readily visible mental health resources page on the College website.
c. Serve as a co-advisor to a peer support program.
d. Coordinate the virtual mental health platform with the Counselor of Accommodations and Mental Health Initiatives.
e. Develop, implement, and present educational resources and sessions for students, faculty, and staff aimed at raising awareness about mental health.
f. Participate in Illinois Mental Health First Aid Training and coordinate with Human Resources to provide training for the campus community as needed.

Specific Functional Job Requirements


Education Requirements:
  • Master's degree in counseling, clinical psychology, social work or related field. Current LCPC or LCSW required or ability to obtain within 2 years.
Experience Requirements:
  • Professional counseling experience required; experience in a college setting preferred.
Knowledge:
  • Mental health counseling; psychological disorders; individual emotional and behavioral patterns and social and economic factors that contribute
Skills:
  • Ability to engage a diverse population of students and staff in educational and promotional activities; excellent interpersonal, organizational, and presentation skills
Personal Requirements:
  • Strong sense of commitment to mental health and wellness and the community college philosophy.

EMPLOYEE BENEFITS SUMMARY
Support and Supervisory Staff

Vacation Hours

Full-time support and supervisory employees earn 80 hours of vacation time during their first full year of employment. For each additional year of employment, support staff employees receive an additional 8 hours, up to a maximum of 160 hours. Hours are accrued monthly and can be taken in hourly increments. Hours start accruing from the first day of employment, although employees must complete their 90-day probationary period before using vacation time. There is a maximum carryover of 80 hours into a new fiscal year.

Sick Hours

Full-time support and supervisory employees earn 96 hours of sick time each year. Hours are accrued monthly (8 hours per month) and can be used in hourly increments. Sick leave may carry over and accumulate with no maximum.

Personal Hours

Full-time support and supervisory employees earn 40 hours of personal time at the beginning of each fiscal year. For employees who begin in the middle of a fiscal year, hours will be prorated. Personal time can be used in hourly increments. Any unused personal time will be transferred to sick leave at the end of the fiscal year.

Holidays

Lake Land College provides for nine paid holidays: January 1st, Friday Before Easter, Martin Luther King, Jr., Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, Day After Thanksgiving, and December 25th.

Tuition Waiver

Lake Land College offers tuition waivers for credit courses to current full-time employees, employee's spouse or civil union partner, and their unmarried dependents under age 23. Any fees associated with the classes are the responsibility of the employee.

Tuition Reimbursement

Full-time employees are entitled to a tuition reimbursement of $200 per credit hour with a maximum of $1200 a fiscal year to advance their education with a baccalaureate, masters, or doctoral degree. Reimbursement is available for courses in which a grade of C or better is received with verification through official transcripts.

Retirement

Lake Land College employees are members of the State Universities Retirement System (SURS).

(403)b/457(b) Retirement Savings Plans

Lake Land College offers a voluntary 403(b) plan and a 457(b) plan. Employees have the option of choosing from a variety of investment funds and can contribute on a pre-tax or post-tax basis. Employees can elect to enroll in a 403(b) and 457(b) plan at any time. The College offers an Employer Match of up to 3% of your gross salary based on certain criteria. Please refer to Board Policies 05.38 and 05.22 for criteria and guidelines.

Life and AD&D Insurance

Lake Land College provides full-time support and supervisory employees with $40,000 in life and AD&D insurance. Employees may also elect to purchase additional supplemental insurance for themselves, as well as spouse or civil union partner, and their dependent children. Spouses and dependents cannot exceed the amount of the employee's optional benefit.

Voluntary Benefits

Lake Land College offers Voluntary Short-Term Disability, Long-Term Disability, Hospital Indemnity, Critical Illness, and Accident Insurance at group rates paid by employees.


Flexible Spending Account

Full-time employees can elect through payroll deduction to establish a flexible spending account for qualified medical or dependent care expenses incurred during the plan year. These elections are made on a pre-tax basis to save the employee federal and state income taxes. Employees enrolled on a medical flexible spending account can carry over up to $500 from one plan year to the next.

Medical Insurance

Lake Land College offers two health plan options -a traditional PPO health plan and one High Deductible health plan with a compatible Health Savings Account. Employees can elect coverage for their dependents defined as a spouse, civil union partner, or child under the age of 26. Dependent verification is required. Spouses who are able to obtain insurance through his or her full-time employment are not eligible for the College Insurance.

Health Savings Accounts

A HSA is a tax-favored savings account which allows funds to be accumulated tax-free to pay for current and future qualified healthcare expenses. A HSA account is only available if a HDHP, or Plan B is chosen. Lake Land contributes an amount equal to the difference in premiums between Plan A and Plan B. For 2024, this amount is $299.18/month for single coverage, $316.50/month for employee+1 coverage, and $337.12/month for family coverage.
