Position Overview
We are seeking a Special Education Consultant for part-time, as-needed work to provide expert support in the areas of SPED law compliance, Section 504, systems-level program consulting, behavior support, and evaluations. This flexible consulting role is ideal for professionals who want to make meaningful impact while maintaining schedule autonomy.
Key Responsibilities
SPED Law & 504 Consulting
Serve as the district representative at IEP and 504 meetings under IDEA and Section 504.
Consult on development, revision, and implementation of IEPs and 504 Plans in alignment with legal mandates.
Guide school teams on compliance with state and federal special education regulations.
Evaluations & Behavior Support
Conduct Special Education evaluations and assessments (as needed).
Develop Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs) in collaboration with school staff and families.
Provide consultative support for Functional Behavioral Assessments (FBAs) when appropriate.
Program-Level Consulting & System Thinking
Analyze and consult on special education program design, delivery, and school-wide practices.
Support schools with systems-level thinking around inclusive education, staffing models, and compliance.
Help identify and implement sustainable improvements across SPED services.
Collaboration & Training
Collaborate with school staff, administrators, and outside agencies to support students with disabilities.
Provide targeted training and consultation on IDEA and Section 504 requirements.
Assist schools in aligning scheduling and services to student needs outlined in IEPs and 504 Plans.
Crisis Support (As Needed)
Assist schools in responding to and managing urgent SPED-related issues or behavioral crises.
Provide real-time guidance and follow-up consultation to help de-escalate and plan next steps.
Qualifications
Education:
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Special Education or Educational Administration.
Licensure:
Valid Special Education teaching license in the state of Missouri or Kansas , depending on placement.
Administrative or supervisory certification preferred but not required.
Experience:
Minimum of two years working in special education, with IEP/504 coordination and systems consulting preferred.
Knowledge & Skills:
Deep understanding of SPED law (IDEA, Section 504) and compliance procedures.
Familiarity with special education curriculum, general education supports, and evaluation tools.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Strong organizational, communication, and collaboration skills.
Comfortable with occasional on-site support, as needed.

Occasional exposure to standard school environments, including dust, pollen, and noise.
Activity:
Light physical activity such as standing, walking, or lifting up to 50 lbs, with or without accommodations.
Sensory:
Ability to perform job responsibilities with or without assistive devices or accommodations.
