Job Description

Interested in learning more about lung cancer research? The primary purpose of the Research Assistant I is to provide technical assistance primarily in animal genotyping and mouse colony management, as well as the ordering of laboratory reagents/supplies, consumables and receiving shipments. Additional tasks may include experimental support for other lab members, tissue processing and immunohistochemistry, mouse surgical procedures, molecular biology, tissue culture, and immunoblot analysis. Duties will include assistance with organizing reagents and samples, and assistance with general laboratory duties like maintaining proper lab notes and records. The position requires independent decision-making, judgment and high organizational skills. The incumbent is responsible for maintaining safety standards in the laboratory.

KEY FUNCTIONS

• Generally aid and support the PI in all their research and laboratory efforts.
• Independently performing animal experiments in consultation with PI (breeding, weening, genotyping/PCR, bleeding, tissue harvesting, injections, downstream processing and analysis, as well as surgical procedures.)
• Performs animal maintenance (safety protocols and standards, record keeping of animal inventory).
• Is able to train new members of the laboratory in animal techniques.
• Standard molecular techniques and perform tissue culture.
• Willingness to proactively learn new techniques and science.
• Ordering reagents and supplies.
• Other duties as required.

Education

Required:Bachelor's degree, major course work in one of the basic sciences.

Experience

Required: No experience.

Preferred: Willing to work with mice.
