Title: Process Safety Engineer

Location: Near Bolingbrook, IL

Hire Type: Forever long contract with full benefits!

Pay: $70-75/hr.

Sterling Engineering is looking for a Process Safety Management Engineer for a leading refinery near Bolingbrook, IL. This is a great opportunity to work with a company that loves to promote from within.

Job Duties:

• Support resolution of Draft, New, and Existing Open PHA Findings and Action Items
• Update Process Safety Management (PSM) procedures
• Discuss and implement interim measures when applicable
• Monitor and manage proposed target date changes
• Submit Engineering Work Requests (EWRs) when applicable
• Facilitate meetings and remove roadblocks to ensure plan progression
• Verify closure of Refuted/Alternate Closed PHA Action Items
• Provide safety engineering support for various projects based on training and background
• Conduct gas detection modeling to support PHA Action Items
• Develop PHA/LOPA Guidance Documents
• Address issues identified during PHA/LOPA studies to improve consistency
• Support capital and expense projects with safety engineering expertise as needed

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Safety, or a related technical field.
• Experience in Process Safety, PHA/LOPA, and regulatory compliance.
• Strong understanding of Process Hazard Analysis (PHA) and Layers of Protection Analysis (LOPA)
• Experience in process safety, hazard mitigation, and regulatory compliance
• Familiarity with gas detection modeling and PSM procedures
• Ability to create clear guidance documents for process safety consistency
• Strong problem-solving and communication skills
