Hospital Physician- Palliative Care

Reports To: Clinical Team Leader of Palliative Care

Status: Exempt (Salaried)

FT, PT, PRN: Full-time

Shift: 40 hours per week - 4 weekdays at 10 hours per shift

On Call Rotation: Some nights and weekends phone call ( if included in contract)

Location: Pardee Hospital, Henderson County . Mileage Reimbursement Included.

Position Summary

Provide patient care consultation and treatment to patients with serious illness. Provide teaching and mentoring to team of NP/PA's within the Palliative Care team.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide direct client care consultations and management of symptoms related to life-limiting conditions as requested
  • Obtain and review client history
  • Assess clients for pain and symptom management
  • Prescribe necessary medication for pain and symptom management
  • Take calls for palliative care/hospice clients and may serve as attending for hospice clients
  • Provide medical aspects of care in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team of attending physicians, nurses, social workers, and chaplains
  • Actively participate in Interdisciplinary Team meetings for development and evaluation of the clients plan of care
  • Create and maintain accurate patient records
  • Teach and mentor outpatient and inpatient palliative care providers to obtain quality care outcomes, efficiently with and excellent patient and family experience
  • Practice within the scope of license, certification or registration, where applicable, and as required by law and regulation
  • Practice safety and infection control methods
  • Participate in the coordination of the patient's care in accordance with professional standards of practice
  • Participate in the development and evaluation of the plan of care
  • Contribute to patient and family counseling and education
  • Educate providers in the community on Palliative Care and Hospice services, and end of life issues
  • Serve as clinical resource for staff of Four Seasons in addition to staff at facilities served
  • Participate in clinical call rotation
  • Maintain current medical education and appropriate licensure
  • Practice safety and /or infection control methods
  • Perform duties in compliance with Medicare Condition of Participation
  • Perform other duties as requested or assigned

  • Knowledge of HIPAA privacy rules and regulations
  • Knowledge of electronic records systems
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy
  • Proficient in MS Office: Outlook, Word, Excel, etc.

Qualifications

Education:

  • Doctor of Medicine degree or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree from an accredited institution

Experience:
  • 1-3 years of applicable experience in the treatment of terminally ill patients
  • Demonstrated understanding of the Centers for Medicaid and Medicare Services requirements
  • Experience effectively collaborating with a diverse group
Licensures & Certifications: (if applicable)
  • Possess and maintain any and all applicable privileges with Mission, Pardee and/or Park Ridge hospitals
  • Valid, unrestricted, medical license to practice medicine in the state of North Carolina
  • Board Eligible or Board Certified in Hospice and Palliative Medicine, preferred
  • Valid, unrestricted, DEA registration
  • Valid drivers license and automobile insurance

Physical Demands

  • Ability to sit and/or stand for prolonged periods of time; in excess of four hours per day
  • Constant use of hands to finger, handling, or feeling; reach with hands and arms; and talk; or hear
  • Ability to occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds
  • Specific vision abilities required are close vision and distance vision with the ability to adjust focus, as needed
