This is an exciting time to work for Amarillo College! We are seeking our next
Part-Time Lab Assistant - Fire Protection Technology who will be all-in on our mission and who will assist the instructor of record in conducting skills labs during fire protection courses. The primary responsibility of the assistant will be lab support and assistance.
Qualifications EDUCATION: Required: High School Diploma or GED
Preferred: Associate Degree or higher in related field
EXPERIENCE: Required : One (1) year of experience in firefighting in a municipal, Emergency Services District (ESD) or County fire department.
Preferred : Experience with academic programs, training and/or continuing education. Experience in other first responder disciplines (law enforcement; EMS).
CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES: Required: Texas Commission on Fire Protection (TCFP) Basic Structure Fire Suppression Certification or higher; valid Texas Class C Driver's License.
Job Duties & Responsibilities - Follow all instructional guidelines when in the classroom and during skills labs to ensure student, faculty, and environmental safety at all times.
- Assist instructor in day and/or evening courses as required.
- Assist instructor in live fire evolutions.
- Assist instructor in establishing skills evaluation stations.
- Assume responsibility for the orderliness of the learning environment and in the appropriate and safe use of instructional facilities and equipment.
- Perform routine maintenance on academy equipment.
- Assist with prop development, construction and maintenance.
- Assist program coordinator and faculty as directed.
- Perform other duties as required.

- Exhibit computer skills sufficient for email and to assist students in accessing classroom courses and software.
- Maintain knowledge of TCFP rules and regulations.
Salary: Pay grade 7 (salary is determined by Human Resources based on education, work experience and internal comparisons).
Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to travel between offices and buildings, and requires the ability to lift, carry, push, pull and/or maneuver office supplies as needed.
Working Conditions: Must be willing to work a flexible schedule (days, nights, weekends, holidays, and varying events if necessary.)
Work Environment: This position operates in a professional office environment, routinely uses standard office equipment (i.e. computers, phones, copy and fax machines, filing cabinets) and is in a high traffic area with continual interruptions. Software commonly used includes Microsoft Office, Colleague, and various other educational applications. Work may also be performed outside of the office and with little to no supervision.
