Job Description

The League of Minnesota Cities is introducing a new opportunity for an experienced, tech-savvy professional who values connection and collaboration. As the IT Member Consultant, you will guide the development and delivery of external technology offerings for our member cities. Reporting to the Technology Services Director, you will be the primary contact for technology-related member inquiries, providing thoughtful support in coordination with internal staff and consultants. This role suits someone who enjoys building relationships, translating technical concepts into practical solutions, and staying informed on industry trends. Key responsibilities include responding to IT questions, developing reference materials, and maintaining connections with government entities. Salary :  $90,336.00 - $115,000.00 Annually

Position Summary:

Manage external technology offerings for members under the guidance of the Technology Services Director. Identifies areas where members could benefit from advice or programs and creates offerings to meet those needs. Serves as the primary technology contact for members.

Essential Job Duties:

Member inquiries:

  • Serves as the primary contact for technology-related member inquiries. Work in coordination with the Cybersecurity Loss Control Field Consultant and other staff, as appropriate, to make sure League members receive a timely, coordinated, and consistent approach to issues and concerns. 
  • Responds to both routine and complex IT-related inquiries from League members by asking questions to understand challenges, appreciate alternate perspectives, brainstorm on best practices, share resources and provide thoughtful suggestions to improve member processes and outcomes. 
Development of technology resources
  • Stays informed of industry information and developments in technology. 
  • Assist LMCIT staff in devising loss control practices around technology.
  • Drafts and updates member IT reference resources with the lens of prioritizing the League as a resource of choice for our members. Procures and maintains list of technology contracts and vendors for member reference
  • Develops and presents virtual and in-person training on technology topics. Stays informed of industry information and developments in technology to share best practices assistance to members and assist with technology resource updates. 
  • Coordinates the City IT Professionals group (CITPro) ensuring regular training, meetings and gatherings occur. 
  • Creates and maintains connections with State, County and other government entities. 
General
  • Keeps the Technology Services Director informed of issues and concerns members are raising and recommend and implement additional member service outreach programs and services that will support League members ability to improve their overall technology footprint. 
  • Perform other tasks as needed, or as assigned by the Technology Services Director.

Core qualifications & Desirables:

  • Education and experience equivalent to a bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related area.
  • Five years of highly responsible professional experience in technology, including technical and/or managerial leadership.
  • Experience developing technology strategies and solutions.
  • Strong writing, oral communications, and public speaking/presentation skills.
  • Strong project management skills.
  • Ability to travel in-state as needed and occasionally work extra hours as projects demand.
Desirable Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in computer science or information systems, or related field.
  • Two or more years of work experience in a municipal or government entity.
  • Experience leading technology-related initiatives.
  • Familiarity with Minnesota laws and practices affecting local government operations, or the ability to become familiar with them within a short timeframe.
