Hospital Operator PBX HOURS 9:30-6:00 PM

hospital PBX (Private Branch Exchange) Operator is a communications professional who manages the hospital's telephone system, answering and routing calls, providing directory assistance, and acting as a first point of contact for visitors and in-house staff. They also handle emergency calls by monitoring alarms and making announcements, page hospital personnel, and may perform associated clerical or reception duties to ensure efficient hospital operations and a positive patient/visitor experience. 

Key Responsibilities

• Call Management:

  • Answers and routes incoming calls to the correct departments or personnel. 
  • Provides directory assistance for staff and departments within the hospital. 
  • Assists with outgoing calls for employees and patient services. 

• Emergency Response:

  • Monitors alarm panels for critical situations, such as fire alarms. 
  • Receives emergency calls and pages codes to alert appropriate personnel in the event of an emergency. 
  • Operates the base station for radio paging systems (pocket pagers). 

• Personnel & Visitor Assistance:

  • Paging physicians and other hospital personnel over a loudspeaker system or via pocket pager. 
  • Providing limited factual information, such as room numbers, to patients and visitors. 
  • Guiding visitors to their appropriate area within the hospital.
