POSITION DETAILS
We are seeking an ESL teacher (Pre-K-8th grade) committed to ReNEW’s mission of ensuring that all of our PK-8th grade students are academically and emotionally prepared to access the full range of life choices that are the fundamental right of every child in New Orleans.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

  • Administer language assessments at the beginning of the school year to determine placement of students in ESL classes
  • Provide direct instruction of ESL classes to groups of students based on language proficiency
  • Track and monitor student progress data in pull-out ESL group and in general class
  • Collaborate with general education staff and school administration to support student access to the curriculum
  • Build positive, supportive relationships with families of ELL students
  • Administer state assessments, including ELPT and LEAP, to assess student progress
  • As needed, deliver quality, objective-driven professional development to staff

  • Be a content expert by planning rigorous, engaging, Louisiana Student Standards-aligned lessons using Tier 1 curriculum.

  • Use student progress and testing data to assess and adjust instruction as needed.
  • Improve in meaningful and measurable ways through professional development coaching
  • Communicate and collaborate regularly with parents and staff to ensure students are making strong academic and social progress.
  • Persevere through an academically intense curriculum and extended school hours.
  • Participate in both school and network-wide coaching and be solution oriented.
  • Celebrate the impact teachers have as positive role models for students and the community.

WHAT YOU BRING

In addition to the expectations listed above, you will bring the following to your school and students:

  • Bachelor’s degree (required)
  • 2+ years teaching experience (preferred)
  • Experience and success with historically under-served populations of students
  • Teaching certification (preferred and required for early childhood, Special Education)
  • A strong content knowledge in your teaching area
  • The commitment and personal responsibility to do whatever it takes to help prepare our students for college and beyond

FLSA Classification: Exempt
