The Corporate Legal Counselor will provide contract and legal support to Akima’s growing business. The Attorney will assist with supporting the company's compliance and risk management programs. This role involves providing legal counsel on government contracting, trade compliance, supply chain risk management, corporate policies, and various legal matters to ensure that the company operates within the bounds of applicable laws and regulations. Responsibilities Provides ongoing counsel and guidance on legal matters, ensuring the company's business operations comply with applicable laws and regulations Participates in the development of corporate policies, procedures, and programs, supporting their implementation Provides impactful stewardship and leadership within the legal department, contributing to a positive corporate culture and ethical business practices Performs other duties as assigned to support the legal department and overall corporate objectives Collaborates with other members of the Legal Team and Human Resources on corporate-wide initiatives Assists in the review, drafting and negotiation of privacy provisions in customer, partner and vendor contracts as they relate to employment matters Drafts and reviews offer letters, employment contracts, confidentiality agreements, employee handbooks, benefit plans, bonus and compensation plans, and other employment-related policies Provides guidance on day-to-day domestic labor and employment matters, including with respect to the Family Medical Leave Act, the Fair Labor Standards Act and the Americans with Disabilities Act Facilitates dispute resolution to mitigate risks and protect company interests Collaborates with business group, senior leadership as well as internal operations functions Qualifications Bachelor's degree Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an ABA-accredited law school Be a member of a State Bar with the ability to practice as in-house counsel in Virginia within 1 year of employment Excellent verbal and written communication skills Strong interpersonal skills with a proven ability to build effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders High level of business acumen with the ability to deliver results in a fast-paced environment Ability to effectively communicate and provide advice to non-lawyers Strong organizational skills and attention to detail Self-motivated, dynamic, and creative team player with strong analytical and problem-solving skills Ability to act with integrity, professionalism, and confidentiality Capable of working independently and collaboratively in a team environment Company Description Work Where it Matters Akima is not just another global enterprise and federal contractor.
