Job Title: Controller Department: Accounting Reports To: President FLSA Status: Exempt Prepared Date: January 3, 2000

Summary

The Controller directs the financial activities of the organization, either personally or through subordinate employees. This role is responsible for strategic financial planning, reporting, compliance, and oversight of accounting operations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Other duties may be assigned as necessary.

  • Develops and recommends major corporate economic strategies, objectives, and policies.

  • Prepares financial reports that summarize and forecast business activity, including income, expenses, and earnings.

  • Directs the preparation of budgets and reviews proposals with supporting documentation.

  • Advises management on insurance coverage to protect against potential losses and liabilities.

  • Provides timely reviews of financial status across various programs and activities.

  • Recommends operational adjustments in response to tax code revisions.

  • Coordinates audits of company accounts.

  • Prepares reports required by regulatory agencies.

  • Establishes and maintains relationships with banks and financial institutions.

  • Oversees the company payroll system.

Supervisory Responsibilities

Responsible for supervising employees in accordance with company policies and applicable laws. Duties include:

  • Interviewing, hiring, and training staff

  • Planning, assigning, and directing work

  • Appraising performance

  • Rewarding and disciplining employees

  • Addressing complaints and resolving issues

Language Skills

  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret business publications, professional journals, technical procedures, and government regulations

  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and manuals

Mathematical Skills

  • Proficiency in advanced mathematical concepts such as exponents, logarithms, quadratic equations, and permutations

  • Ability to apply statistical techniques including frequency distribution, reliability and validity testing, variance analysis, correlation, sampling theory, and factor analysis

Reasoning Ability

  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions

  • Ability to interpret complex technical instructions and manage abstract and concrete variables

Physical Demands

  • Regularly required to sit, use hands, and communicate verbally

  • Frequently required to reach with hands and arms

  • Occasionally required to stand and walk

  • May occasionally lift/move up to 10 pounds

  • Specific vision abilities include close vision, depth perception, and focus adjustment

Work Environment

  • Office environment with minimal exposure to outdoor elements

  • Quiet workspace with exposure to computer equipment and standard office devices
