Department : Budget Salary : 49,400 - 74,300 Job Description The following positions are available: Accountant I, Accountant II, and Accountant III. Accountant I Performs professional accounting work involving the recording, analysis and reporting of financial data in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles and federal, state, university and NACUBO guidelines. Assembles data from books of original entry and central control records. Prepares monthly account reconciliations, biweekly cash transfers, and other financial statements and reports pertaining to departmental or university activities. Audits and processes purchase, cash receipt, and disbursement documents in accordance with disbursing rules and regulations. Monitors status and use of short-term operational cash advances and advises management of status. May maintain student billing system accounting function and create and correct transcode errors. Reviews financial reports and clears suspended transactions. Reviews central accounts and fund groups for propriety of entries and investigates overdrafts. May prepare or assist in the preparation of year-end government reports and annual financial reports. Performs other job-related duties as needed. Minimum Qualifications: Requires a thorough understanding of both theoretical and practical aspects of an analytical, technical or professional discipline; or the basic knowledge of more than one professional discipline. Knowledge of the discipline is normally obtained through a formal, directly job-related 4 year degree from a college or university or an equivalent in-depth specialized training program that is directly related to the type of work being performed. No experience is required. Accountant II Performs professional accounting work responsible for a major business area, such as student billing system, Federal Title IV programs, and so forth. Maintains the accounting of a major business area, including table maintenance, submission, reconciliation of data feed, account reviews and corrections. Ensures that all system-related transactions are made in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles and federal, state, university and NACUBO guidelines. Prepares journal entries to correct FRS records; conducts monthly reconciliations; prepares cash receipts for cash received through Electronic Funds Transfer; review transfers to state or federal agencies; may calculate and record the reserve for bad debt. Assists college/department business administrators with questions relating to the accounting activity. Conducts contract compliance review to ensure adherence to terms and conditions of agreements. Prepares recurring financial reports for state and/or federal agencies and may prepare Profit and Loss Statements. Advises manager on accounting issues and may coordinate office activities in the manager's absence. May review departmental accounting practices to ensure compliance with guidelines; conduct review of department cash handling practices; conduct review of cash incident reports; follow-up on cash deposit discrepancies; and make recommendations. Performs other job-related duties as assigned. Maintains accounts in a major business area, including table maintenance, submission, reconciliation of data, account reviews and corrections. Ensures that all system-related transactions are made in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles and federal, state, university and NACUBO guidelines. Research complex issues and transactions and responds to customer accounting inquiries that cannot be resolved by junior staff. Assists college/department business administrators with questions relating to the accounting activity. Conducts contract compliance review to ensure adherence to terms and conditions of agreements. Provides research information for special projects, reviews financial transactions, and resolves issues relating to reports to state and/or federal agencies. Serves as mentor to new employees and coordinates office activities in the manager's absence. Reviews departmental accounting practices to ensure compliance with guidelines; conducts review of department cash handling practices; conducts reviews of cash incident reports; follows up on cash deposit discrepancies; and recommends corrections and best practices. Performs other job-related duties as required. Minimum Qualifications: Requires a thorough understanding of both theoretical and practical aspects of an analytical, technical or professional discipline, or the basic knowledge of more than one professional disciplines. Knowledge of the discipline is normally obtained through a formal, directly job-related, 4 year degree from a college or university or an equivalent in-depth specialized training program that is directly related to the type of work being performed.
